art+argument @ Geschlossene Gesellschaft - Heute Offen!

On the 29th November 2018 Nicole Bachmann, Søren Berner, Mayo Bucher and Annette von Spesshardt Portatius assembled to debate the motion: The artist is an engine of social change. 

Speaking for the motion Berner and Portatius were passionate in their defence of the active, effective artist. Artists effect social change - and not only that, cannot avoid doing so. 

Bachmann and Bucher dismissed the argument. Artists are prostitutes who sell their services and the artist who claims to bring about social improvement should be regarded with great suspicion. Social workers, police, teachers and the like are those who bring about social change. 

Thus it continued in a heated fashion, though ultimately Bucher and Bachmann won the public vote. Very warm thanks to the participants and to the audience who came on a busy Zurich evening during Kunstszene: Zürich.
